The last straw

I've been with Amazon for more than 3 years. I can corroborate many of these despicable accounts of psychological warfare at Amazon.

Since Amazon claims to be so metrics-driven, I think they would want to measure their impact on employees’ lives, but their lawyers will never let them because of the liability.

They would have to count the innumerable marriages destroyed, colleagues falling apart in tears, people collapsing in their offices, corporate counter-intelligence again those who spoke out against the machine, and the many stories of family’s hurt. Examples are numerous for every employee saying things like "I couldn't make my son's championship game because of a meeting with my VP“ and "I had to leave my daughter’s birthday party for a sudden conference call."

I know of several brilliant hard-working people fired after an illness. I know of others fired for taking care of loved ones during their illnesses. There’s a woman I know who is currently on medical leave and now her management is openly questioning her ongoing value. I also personally recognize several of the stories posted on this site and can back them up 100%.

In the end, Amazon is really despicable, so I hope these recent announcements of a “new and improved” annual review process in 2017 will make a difference. I’m definitely on my last straw here and will leave if I don’t see anything improved next year.
