No sympathy at all
When I worked at Amazon, my manager gave me grief for taking a day off to say goodbye to my dying grandmother.
What did I do? I ended up leaving home at the crack of dawn, driving 3+ hours each way, spending less than half an hour with my grandmother, and then going to the office for 2 hours.
My manager even had the nerve to scold me for arriving to work later than estimated because I got stuck in heavy traffic!
I spent that whole day in a panic about getting to work. It was the most miserable day of my life.
That was the end. I left that job shortly afterwards.
I couldn't be happier in my new job. No matter the stock price, it isn't worth it to work for a company like Amazon whose managers think that they are more important than anything else in the world.
