Navigating corporate politics

Amazon's biggest problem is that it's poorly managed. People are promoted for documenting successes, not for necessarily making the best decisions. This can make working there very frustrating if you are used to thinking about the greater whole.

The lifers think a little too much of their opinion of the culture. They always excuse departures as people not fitting in so they don't ever properly evaluate where they are going wrong in their people management practices. The promotion process is byzantine. The steps meant to remove bias just increased the company's problems.

Work at Amazon is boring because the only real challenge was navigating the corporate politics. Glad I left after realizing this.
