Bunch of startups

Amazon feels like a bunch of small startups conglomerated into a large organization. As a result, there's often ambiguity in the job. It's pretty chaotic because each team runs independently and you have to figure out how the one you're in works. It can be daunting at times. Like any group of startups, some are really good and some are really horrible. There's a reason 9 out of 10 startups fail within a few years. It's not because of a lack of good ideas. It's because of mismanagement. The difference is that Amazon keeps the bad ones alive as they mismanage so many people or even abuse them. We're a customer obsessed company, but managers aren't taught to take care of their customers (i.e. their direct report employees).
