Unionization Process

Since Amazon has consistently refused to address the now well-documented problems of employee mistreatment by many of its managers which is enabled by Amazon HR, the FACE of Amazon has decided to move forward with a unionization process. As such, the FACE of Amazon announces today the formation of the Amazon Employees Internationally Organized Union (AEIOU).

Amazon is great from A to Z for its customers, so we're going to force it to fill in the gaps in employment quality for our fellow mistreated employees through the formation of AEIOU.

Unionization Process:

The new AEIOU organizational constitution and bylaws are available here. Key relevant points from our constitution regarding our Union are that we will not require the payment of Union dues and we will not represent employees in areas where they are currently satisfied with Amazon's employment practices, including pay, benefits, or seniority. If needed, these provisions of the constitution can be proposed for amendment by members in the future per the process described in the constitution.

Effective today, we are beginning the process of collecting signatures from supporters for the purpose of forming our union.  You can find the signature collection form here.

Former Amazon employees and other supporters can fill out this form indicating their moral support for our Union. Only Current Amazon Employees can fill complete the official unionization portion of the form, which is listed as the "Authorization for Representation Under the National Labor Relations Act".

After we have collected signatures from a majority (50% + 1) of employees in a bargaining unit, then we will take these signatures to Amazon to demand that our Union be recognized as the bargaining agent for all the employees in the bargaining unit. (The bargaining unit may be comprised of all Amazon employees in one country or a specific subset of employees in a job category or location, depending on our ability to gather signatures from each unit. Although this process and our Union constitution has been written under US labor laws, we will work with Amazon employees in other countries to also help establish their Union rights as much as possible).

If Amazon asks for verification of the signatures, we will request a third party verification process where Amazon will provide a list of current employees to an independent third party and a representative of our Union will meet with the third party to match our signatures against the employee list and verify current employment status. We will then take our signatures back from the meeting without any information left for Amazon to misuse. This will allow us to protect our members from Amazon's previous behavior illegally punishing those seeking unionization. This also allows us to require only minimal relevant information from each signatory to our petition, including the first two letters of first and last name, the street number and zip code of the home address, the Amazon login ID, and the last two digits of the social security number, in order to maximize protection of their personal details.

If Amazon refuses to recognize our Union (or only 30% of the employees in the bargaining unit have signed our petition), our Union will then file a petition for representation with the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB). A secret ballot election would then be held allowing all affected employees in the bargaining unit to vote on whether or not they want to be represented by our Union.

Once our Union has been established, we will hold a nomination and election process for our National Union Leadership and then immediately initiate negotiations with Amazon management regarding the following current grievance areas:

1. Performance evaluations and reviews, including which metrics are chosen and how they are measured, especially soft leadership skills which are easily falsified across Amazon today

2. Promotions, especially avoiding favoritism based on positive or negative falsified data

3. Performance improvement plans, especially those based on falsified data

4. Enforcement of stated Amazon policies and code of ethics by HR, especially when violated by managers

5. Transfers (including inappropriately blocked transfers)

6. Firing

7. Hiring
