Very little accountability

There is very little accountability at Amazon. People frequently leave on their own because issues are never really dealt with. Managers refuse to take ownership and deal with any of the many problems. Instead they just make excuses for the incompetence and then blame the people who left the problems so they won't be held responsible. Everyone else is left to clean up the mess left behind until they then get sick of doing that as well and leave Amazon.

Amazonians commonly think that as a tech company we need to build everything ourselves because nothing in the industry is good enough and Amazon is "so unique". No, we're not. The software Amazon produces is full of bugs because everything always has to "go live right now and we'll fix it later!" The result is crappy and unmaintainable code because people leave Amazon so frequently. There's never time in the future for anyone else to support the crappy code someone else wrote before they gave up and left Amazon.
