Truly inhumane

I have been working at Amazon.com for over 6 years. If you are lucky enough to be on the right team (like me), you have a lot of room for advancement and skills growth.

If you are on the wrong team, God help you because no one else can. Your only hope is a transfer. Even that depends on the human decency of your current manager (and many of them are truly inhumane in their treatment of their team members). If you are treated unfairly by your manager, there is no recourse whatsoever. HR is useless.  Escalation is even more useless.

Don't fool your self, your performance is not judged by performance metrics. No matter how well you actually perform your job duties or how hard you work to show your success, the company's official view of you is whatever your manager feels like making up. Whatever your manager is bad at and wants to blame on you so that it doesn't block their next promotion, it's your fault. Don't hit your head against the wall thinking it will do any good to fight their lies because you'll just end up like so many I've seen on their way out - with psychological injuries which may take years to heal, if ever.
