Stagnating

Based on my experience and that of many others around the world, Amazon is a company where you stagnate. The only career path is for those who were hired into a middle management role to begin with and you’re one of their favored employees. Of course, that doesn’t apply to the people who do the real work of packing and sorting the crap that people buy; there’s no path for them at all; they’re relegated to just that role, which is why there is such a high turnover rate at Amazon. Nearly everyone who has one of those jobs will be out looking for work within 12 to 18 months, assuming they don’t get fired before that.

There are no learning opportunities, they fail to promote qualified people, there’s no mentoring of any kind; you’re stuck in that role no matter how good you are or your education and skills. There’s no attempt to help you achieve your long-term career goals. All the good jobs have been reserved for the people they recruited from other companies or hired straight out of college, even when it means those people don’t deserve to be promoted or are complete screw-ups.

Amazon’s board of directors is populated with old, white people who have no clue about how to provide oversight for a megalomaniac like Jeff Bezos; a guy who thinks the best thing to do with his “winnings” is to compete in the private space race with Elon Musk. That show you his huge ego and narcissism. Jobs at Amazon are a dead end; stay clear of them and don’t buy anything from them; support your local businesses instead.
