Need to be Always Right

Amazon has lots of smart people and lots of managers but zero leadership. One of the funniest things that I saw there was the performance evaluation system that has at least one major flaw: one leadership principle is 'always right.' This implies that good leaders are 'always right' so no one wants to be on the losing side of any discussion because you fail if you were wrong. No one talks about leveraging your smart employees to 'come up with the right answer.' I've been at tons of meetings where people just fight to win the argument. Everyone brings their own bulls**t data and no one bothers to see if it's real or made up. This immaturity starts at the top and goes all the way down to every meeting.
