Sergio Gomez

Sergio Gómez (b. Ciudad Hidalgo, Michoacán, Mexico, 1973 – d. Morelia, Michoacan, Mexico, December 3, 2007) – Singer and producer. While living and working in Chicago, Mexican immigrant Sergio Gomez became the lead singer of the newly-formed K-Paz de la Sierra (shown above) in 2003. In the same year, Gomez took up residency in Avon, Indiana (West of Indianapolis). In spite of disputes between Gomez and other band members, the group had several hits including “Volveré,” which reached #6 on the Hot Latin Tracks chart in 2004. While Gomez was performing in Mexico in December 2007, tragedy struck the Hendricks County resident as he was kidnapped, tortured and killed in a series of gang-related attacks on musicians. (Two other musicians were murdered in Morelia in the same year.) Within a week after Gomez’s body was found on a highway, he and his band received a Grammy nomination for best album in the Banda category (a Mexican style characterized by high powered brass and drumming).
