The McCoys

The McCoys – Rock Band. Led by Rick Zehringer (later known as Rick Derringer), the group started out as a garage band in Union City (on the Indiana side) in 1962, when Rick was only thirteen. The other original members were Rick’s brother Randy on drums and neighbor Dennis Kelly on bass. Early names included the Rick Z Combo and Rick and the Raiders. The band’s biggest hit was the bubble-gum classic "Hang on Sloopy" (1965), which went all the way to #1 and spent eleven weeks on the pop charts. The band’s career ended when Derringer became a solo artist in 1973.
