Bill Jennings

Bill Jennings (b. Indianapolis, September 2, 1919 - d. Indianapolis, November 29, 1978) -- Guitarist and composer. Bill Jennings is a largely forgotten jazz guitarist, who adapted to many styles, including blues and R & B. Referred to as "the architect of jazz soul," Jennings recorded two solo albums on Prestige: Enough Said (1959) and Glide On (1960). He wrote many of the tunes on the albums, which included organist Jack McDuff and fellow Hoosier Jack Wilson on piano. From 1958 to 1969, he was a sideman on nine albums on Prestige by saxophonist Willis "Gator" Jackson. He also was a sideman with Louis Jordan and his Timpani Five. Stylistically, Jennings was known for his "coolness" rather than rapid-fire virtuosity.
