McCracken as Otello

James McCracken (b. Gary, December 16, 1926 – d. New York City, April 29, 1988) – Tenor. While serving in the US Navy during WW II, McCracken was a member of the Blue Jacket Choir. His music studies were at Columbia University and in Germany. After years of traveling with various operatic companies, McCracken became one of the MET’s main dramatic tenors starting in 1963. Lastly, his recordings and performances represent a wide range of styles and languages, with Otello being one of his signature roles. In fact, McCracken portayal of Otello is considered one of the all-time bests.
