Bobby Helms

Bobby Helms (b. Bloomington, August 15, 1933 – d. Martinsville, June 19, 1997) – Singer. Born and raised in Bloomington, Helms moved to Nashville in 1956 and signed with Decca Records. In the following year, he recorded “Fraulein” and “My Special Angel,” both of which reached #1 on the Country charts and also broke into Billboard’s Top 100. Also in 1957, he wrote and recorded the classic “Jingle Bell Rock,” which charted in five different years. His recording and performance career continued into the 1980s, and he spent the last several years of his life living outside of Martinsville.
