Jamey Aebersold

Jamey Aebersold (b. New Albany, July 21, 1939 - ) – Saxophonist, educator and author. A graduate of Indiana University (Master’s in Saxophone, 1962), Aebersold is a pioneering pedagogue of jazz improvisation. His play-a-long sets (books with CDs), of which there are well over a hundred, have helped countless jazz musicians learn and refine the art of improvisation. Equally important are his weeklong Summer Jazz Workshops, which have been offered in various countries around the world for over thirty years. In 1989, he became a member of the International Association of Jazz Educators’ Hall of Fame. Although he is primarily known as a saxophonist, he also plays piano, bass, and banjo. He is also a great free throw shooter, once making 50 in a row.
