Jan Browne

Jann Browne (b. Anderson, March 14, 1954 - ) – Singer and songwriter. Brought up in Indiana, Browne was influenced early on by her grandparents, who were in a traveling square-dancing troupe. From the beginning, she was also immersed in rock and blues—elements that have always pervaded her music. In the late 1970s, she moved to California in the interest of pursuing a career in country music and sang lead with Asleep at the Wheel, a western swing band. Following a move to Nashville, Brown released an album Tell Me Why (Curb Records, 1989), which spawned three hits and earned her a nomination by the Academy of Country Music for female vocalist of the year. After failed attempts to repeat the success of her first album, she became disillusioned with the politics of the country music industry and moved back to California. Since then, she has produced records on independent labels in Europe and the United States.
