Trigger Alpert

Herman “Trigger” Alpert (b. Indianapolis, September 3, 1916 - d. Jackson Beach, Florida, December 21, 2013) – Bassist. After studying music at Indiana University, Alpert moved to New York City and played with Alvino Ray in 1940 and shortly thereafter joined Glenn Miller’s band. During the 1940s, he played with a number of jazz greats including Tex Beneke, Benny Goodman, Ella Fitzgerald, Louis Armstrong, Frank Sinatra, Roy Eldridge, and Woody Herman. His work in the 1950s included engagements with Artie Shaw, Gene Krupa, Coleman Hawkins, and Buddy Rich. His only recording as a leader was the LP Trigger Happy (Riverside, 1956), which included saxophonists Zoot Sims and Al Cohn. In 1970, he started a new career in Photography.
