Donald Neuen

Donald Neuen (b. Berne - ) -- Conductor, scholar, and composer. Well-known choral diretor Donald Neuen grew up in a Swiss Mennonite community about thirty miles south of Fort Wayne. Having served on the faculties of the University of Wisconsin, Ball State University, Georgia State University, and University of Tennessee, and Eastman (12 years), Neuen is best known for directing Choral Activities at U.C.L.A. from 1993 to 2014. There, he directed the celebrated U.C.L.A. Chorale. He mentored many successful conductors who earned an M.M. and/or D.M.A. at U.C.L.A.'s prestigious graduate choral program. Outside of academia, he conducted the large, auditioned Angeles Chorale (1996-2014) and the Crystal Cathedral Choir, whose singing was televised internationally. Once a member of the famous Robert Shaw Chorale, Neuen joined his old conductor to help establish the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra Chorus in 1970. His books on choral techniques, methods, and conducting are widely used, and he is still -- in his 80s -- a sought after clinician and guest conductor.
