Jeff White

Jeff White (b. Syracuse, New York, 1957 – ) – Guitarist, singer, and songwriter. At age thirteen, Jeff White's family moved to North Manchester, IN, where he attended junior high school, high school, and college as a Sociology major. Watching "Hee Haw" as a kid gave him the desire and the education to pursue music and eventually become an accomplished Bluegrass flat picker. As a young man, he played with the college group Suburban Grass and later the Johnson band, which won a contest at a Kentucky Fried Chicken Bluegrass Festival in Louisville. In the 80's, he entered graduate school at the Kinsey Institute at IU Bloomington, where he quickly became active in the music scene. In 1987, he became one of the founding members of Bloomington’s Not Too Bad Bluegrass Band, which included many other burgeoning talents. Later in the decade, White played acoustic guitar in Alison Krauss’s Union Station Band and appeared on two of the group’s CDs. White made Nashville his home in 1992 and, since then, has recorded and toured with the Chieftains, Vince Gill, Patty Loveless, Lyle Lovett, and Tim O’Brien. In addition, White did the production work for two of Hoosier fiddler Michael Cleveland’s CDs on Rounder. White, himself, has recorded two solo CDs with Rounder, including The White Album (1997).
