Grascals

Grascals – Bluegrass band. Based out of Nashville, the six-piece Grascals is one of the most successful bluegrass bands of today. The original line-up of 2004 included three former Hoosiers: Terry Eldridge (guitar and vocals), Jamie Johnson (guitar and vocals), and Jimmy Mattingly (fiddle). Made up of bluegrass veterans, the Grascals, sometimes referred to as a “supergroup,” was an instant hit, touring with Dolly Parton within its first year. Frequent guest spots on the Grand Ole Opry and appearances on the TV Guide Channel, the Late, Late Show with Craig Ferguson, and Opry Live have helped boost the band’s reputation. The Grascals already have ten CDs, the first four with Rounder. Guest musicians on their recordings have included Dolly Parton, George Jones, Hoosier Steve Wariner, the Jordanaires, Dierks Bentley, and Vince Gill. Each year, the International Bluegrass Music Association and the Society for the Preservation for Bluegrass Music in America have given the Grascals various awards, including Best Band of the Year, Best Instrumental of the Year, Best Entertainer of the Year, and Best Album of the Year. In addition, the group has been nominated Grammy in the "Best Bluegrass Album" on three occasions. Currently, none of the Hoosier originals are with the group, as Mattingly left in 2008, Jackson left in 2015, and Eldredge in 2019.
