Blues

Not only were some of the earliest blues recordings made at Richmond's Gennett Records in the mid '20, blues singers have made their home in Indiana, especially Indianapolis, ever since. During the hay day of Indiana Avenue, jazz was not the only musical expression that permeated the clubs and poured onto the streets. Leroy Carr and Scrapper Blackwell were the most widely-recorded and widely-traveled of the local bluesmen, but several others sought inspiration and remained active during their years in Indianapolis. Lastly, the Slippery Noodle continues to be one of the top blues venues in the country.
