Joe Henderson

Joe Henderson (b. 1937, Como, Mississippi – d. November 7, 1964) – Singer. Southern-born Joe Henderson grew up in Gary, Indiana. Henderson started his career in Gospel and spent some time with the famous Fairfield Four Gospel Group based in Nashville. Henderson was the group’s bass vocalist and also played guitar. Also while living in Nashville, Henderson signed a contract with Paul Cohen’s Todd Records and proved to be the label’s biggest star. In the early 1960s, he released a number of R & B hits. His most popular song was “Snap Your Fingers”(1962), which reached #2 on the R & B charts and #8 on the pop charts. He also had commercial success with “Baby Don’t Leave Me,” “Big Love,” “The Searching is Over,” and “You Take One Step, I’ll Take Two.” Henderson’s career and life came to halt at age twenty-seven due to a fatal heart attack.
