Tim Carroll

Tim Carroll – Songwriter and guitarist. A 1977 graduate of West Terre Haute, Tim Carroll went on to Indiana University in Bloomington, where he joined a punk band called the Gizmos. After the Gizmos moved to New York City and fizzled out, Carroll stuck around and spent eight of his thirteen years there working on Wall Street. While in New York City, he also formed a popular country-rock bar band called the Blue Chieftains. In 1993, he relocated to Nashville, where he has had great success as a songwriter and a sideman. Two years after moving to the Music City, his head shot appeared on the cover of a Billboard issue that included an article on the city’s Lower Broadway music scene. In 1996, he was a recipient of a Nashville Music Award for Best Unsigned Artist. Not surprisingly, Sire Records offered him a contract the subsequent year. Since 2000, he has released seven CDs on various labels. While his music offers a blend of country, rock and punk, he has had success with individual songs. For example, his “Find a Way to Win” appeared on the soundtrack of Election (1999), and his “A Girl That’s Hip” made it onto Drop Dead Gorgeous (also 1999). In addition, numerous artists have recorded his songs; they include John Prine, his wife Elizabeth Cook, Sonny Burgess, Asleep at the Wheel, and Kasey Chambers. Since 2000, he made over a hundred appearances at the Grand Ole Opry with his wife Elizabeth Cook, who is still a popular recording and touring solo artist.
