John P. Strohm (Blake Babies)

John P. Strohm (b. Bloomington, March 23, 1967 - ) – Singer, guitarist, drummer, and lawyer. After breaking into the Indiana punk rock scene as a drummer, Strohm moved to Boston in 1985 and became a guitarist. With fellow Berklee students Freda Love and Juliana Hatfield, Strohm formed Blake Babies, an indie pop/rock band known for melodic vocals by a mix of female and male voices. At a Harvard reading, the band members asked poet Alan Ginsberg to give them a name; the response, “Blake Babies,” was possibly a reference to William Blake’s Songs of Innocence and Experience. After releasing three albums, the group split up in 1991, but reunited for a few years starting in 1999. Following his tenure with Blake Babies, Strohm played with the Indiana-based group Antenna, which included Freda Love. He has also been a member of the Boston-based Lemonheads (drummer in 1988-89 and guitarist in 1997). As a solo artist, he has released three albums (1997-2007), for which he sometimes records all of the instrumental parts. In 2004, Strohm graduated from Cumberland School of Law at Samford University (Alabama), and he currently represents musicians, songwriters, and independent record labels as a transactional intellectual property and entertainment lawyer. After working as the senior counsel in the music industry practice of the Nashville law firm Loeb & Loeb LLP from 2011 to 2017, he has been the president of Rounder Records.
