Pharez Whitted

Pharez Whitted (b. Indianapolis, 1960 - ) Trumpet player, composer, and producer. The son of Virtue Hampton Whitted and the nephew of Slide Hampton, Pharez Whitted grew up in Indianapolis and studied at DePauw University before earning a Master’s at Indiana University. Currently the Director of Jazz Studies at Chicago State University, Whitted has performed widely since 1982, including appearances at the 1988 Presidential Inauguration, the Billboard Music Awards, and the Arsenio Hall Show. While he frequently tours with Bobby Broom, he has worked with Wynton Marsalis, Branford Marsalis, John Mellencamp, Slide Hampton, The Temptations, Lou Rawls, Ramsey Lewis, and Elvin Jones. In the summer of 2008, he made several appearances at the Jazz Kitchen in Indianapolis. Under contract with Motown’s Jazz Record Label, he is currently working on his third solo album.
