Richard Finch (K.C. and the Sunshine Band)

Richard Finch (b. Indianapolis, January 23, 1954 - ) – Although born in Indianapolis, Finch moved as an infant to Hialeah, Florida, where he learned to play the bass. While working as an engineer for TK Records in Florida, he met Harry Wayne Casey, who wanted to put together a horn-based group. While Finch and Casey started writing songs together, they also started building a band. The end result was the Disco powerhouse K.C. and the Sunshine Band, which released the following number-one singles over its second and third albums (1975 and 1976): “Get Down Tonight,” “(That’s the Way) I Like It,” “(Shake, Shake, Shake) Shake Your Booty,” and “I’m Your Boogie Man.” By the end of the decade, the popularity of Disco waned, and conversely the song-writing team of Finch and Casey fell apart. While Finch left in the early 1980s to pursue his own projects, Casey hung on to the band until 1985 and brought it back with new members in 1991 and again in 2001.
