Blind Leroy Garnet

Blind Leroy Garnett (b. Indianapolis, August 6, 1897 – d. Chicago, January 3, 1933) -- Pianist. At about the age of thirteen, the Indianapolis native moved with his family to Chicago, where he lived for most of the remainder of his short life. Described as completely blind, unemployed, and short and stocky, Garnet recorded eight songs with Paramount in 1930 and 1931. His sides were in a ragtime-flavored Boogie Woogie style, often referred to as Barrelhouse. Only two of these were piano solos -- "Louisiana Glide" and "Chain em' Down," as he accompanied singers on the others.
