Virgil Jones


Virgil Jones (b. Indianapolis, August 26, 1939 - d. April 20, 2010) – Trumpet player and fluegelhorn player. An Indianapolis native, Jones began his professional career with Lionel Hampton in 1960 and then went on to play with the Thad Jones-Mel Lewis Band, the Dizzy Gillespie Big Band, and the Ray Charles Band. Known as a valuable ensemble player, he has considerable experience playing for stage productions and film including work on the Broadway show Jelly’s Red Hot Jam (original soundtrack, 1992) and the feature films She’s Gotta Have It (1986) and Ed’s Next Move (1996).


He takes a solo right after Dizzy at "1:26."
