Amanda Overmyer (American Idol)

Amanda Overmyer (b. Little Rock, Arkansas, October 27, 1984 - ) – Singer. Born in Arkansas (where her father was stationed), Overmyer grew up in Camden, Indiana, near Lafayette. A graduate of Delphi High School and Ivy Tech, Overmyer was working as a nurse when she auditioned for American Idol 7 (2008). Influenced by Janis Joplin, she placed eleventh in the competition and got attention for her strong bluesy vocals, her back-talking to the judges, and a fascination with Harleys. Since her elimination, she headlined the Women of Rock show at West Hollywood’s Whiskey A Go Go on May 24, 2008. A highlight of her well-received performance was a set of four original songs. She also introduced some of her new songs at the Harley Davidson Summerfest in Milwaukee in August, 2008, and at a concert in Lafayette on September 19, 2008. Also since her Idol experience, she has appeared on the Ellen DeGeneres Show, Live with Regis and Kelly, and The Morning Show with Mike and Juliet. In her post Idol days, she formed a band in Lafayette and drew 14,000 fans at a show in the summer of 2009. For the next several years, he group toured mainly in the Midwest.
