Daniel Gawthrop

Daniel Gawthrop (b. Fort Wayne, 1949 -- ) – Composer, organist, conductor and music critic. As a child, Gawthrop studied voice, piano, organ and trombone. At the collegiate level, he focused on organ performance and composition at Michigan State University and Brigham Young. Currently represented by Duncan House, Gawthrop has also published works with Warner Brothers, Theodore Presser, and Sacred Music Press. He has received over a hundred commissions from various individuals and groups including the Greg Smith Singers, the United States Air Force Singing Sergeants, the Turtle Creek Chorale, and the Mormon Tabernacle Choir. Since 2015, he has served as composer-in-residence for Renaissance Men, a male vocal chamber group in New England. Although many of his works are for choral groups, he was composer-in-residence for the Fairfax Symphony Orchestra for three years. In addition to composing, he has also worked as a conductor, clinician, and music critic. In fact, he wrote music criticism regularly for the Washington Post.
