Steve Allee

Steve Allee (b. Indianapolis, September 14, 1950 - ) – Pianist, bandleader, composer, and arranger. A former student of Ben Davis High School, Allee served in the 82nd Airborne Division Army Band and, in the early 1970s, played in a quartet led by drummer John von Ohlen. His early experience also includes gigs with the Buddy Rich Band. Currently, Allee leads a big band and combo, arranges and composes prolifically, and serves as musical director for the nationally syndicated Bob and Tom Show. In 2001, he received a Grammy nomination for his big band CD Downtown Blues, and his first solo album reached fourteen on the national Gavin Radio Poll. Compositional highlights include a commission from the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra and film scores for New York in the Fifties and Something to Cheer About, which chronicles the Crispus Attucks 1954-55 basketball team. Lastly, he has composed music for numerous television shows including Chicago Hope, Friends, NYPD Blue, Mad about You, Martha Stewart, Touched by an Angel, and Dharma and Greg. As a side note, his son, trumpeter David Allee, is the proprietor of the Jazz Kitchen.
