Johnny Bothwell

Johnny Bothwell (b. Gary, May 23, 1919 – d. Lakeland, Florida, September 12, 1995) – Saxophonist and bandleader. Bothwell started his career in Chicago and then moved on to New York City, where he played with Woody Herman (1943) and Sonny Durham (1944-46). Other bandleaders he played under include Gene Krupa, Tommy Dorsey, and bass saxophonist Boyd Raeburn. After becoming a popular soloist in the aforementioned bands, he also led his own group that featured his own horn playing between 1945 and 1949. Next, he moved to Miami, where he ceased playing but owned a number of bands.
