Barbara Higbie

Barbara Higbie (b. Michigan, 1958 - ) – Singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist. Although born in Michigan, Higbie grew up in Speedway, Indiana, and spent several of her teen years with her family in Ghana. A recording artist with Windham Hill, Higbie is a versatile instrumentalist, whose talents are expressed through blazing fiddle solos, earthy guitar accompaniments, and lush piano interludes. Based in the San Francisco Bay area since 1982, Higbie has crossed over into various categories including new age, folk, bluegrass, smooth jazz, fusion, and pop. A Grammy-nominated musician, she has released ten CDs as a featured performer and has performed on 65 albums, including a 2007 release by Carlos Santana. Throughout the 1980s, she was also part of Montreux, a Windham Hill acoustic quartet named for the Switzerland jazz festival of the same name. A resident of Berkeley, California, Higbie keeps a busy schedule both performing as a soloist and collaborating with compatible artists. In fact, she has an abundance of shows coming up in 2019 in the West and on cruise ships. She has recently shared the stage with many female singer-songwriters, namely Cris Williamson and Teresa Trull.
