Hoosiers

Hoosiers – British Rock Band. Formerly known as the Hoosier Complex, the Hoosiers is an English rock trio, whose first album release, The Trick to Life (RCA, 2007), went to #1 on the U.K. charts. Already a double platinum album in the UK, The Trick to Life includes four singles that have broken into the U.K. charts, including "Goodbye Mr. A" (imbedded above) which peaked at #5. The band has released three more studio albums, which haven't matched the popularity of The Trick to Life. The group’s curious name comes from the ambiguous origins of the term Hoosier. One use of the term that the band members connected with was the French cognate that means “a group of men with questionable morals.” Their initial interest in the term may be connected to the time that two of the band members spent in Indiana. On the recommendation of a high school chemistry teacher, band members Irwin Sparkes and Alphonso Sharland ventured out of the U.K. following high school to expand their horizons at an American University. During the 2000-2001 school year, they attended the University of Indianapolis on football scholarships. At U of I, Irwin Sparkes won a student award for Best Actor in a Supporting Role for his work in God’s Favorite.
