The Elms

The Elms – Based in Southern Indiana, The Elms consists of Seymour residents Owen Thomas (vocals, guitar), Christopher Thomas (drums, vocals), Thomas Daugherty (guitar, vocals), and Nathan W. Bennett (bass, vocals). Since forming in 2000, the band has released four full-length CDs and is due to release its second album on Universal South in 2008. Known for its affinity with classic rock, the band’s lyrics often deal with life in a working class small town. Some songs also delve into spirituality. Among their over 700 concerts are appearances with the Goo Goo Dolls, Shooter Jennings, Uncle Cracker, Peter Frampton, and Buddy Guy. Although the Elms have performed nationally and internationally—including recent appearances in Holland and Sweden—they have stayed true to their Hoosier roots and have conducted video productions and photo shoots in Indianapolis. In addition, they broke a record in early 2007 at Indy’s intimate Spin club by selling over 500 tickets for an evening show. Lastly, “Nothin’ to do with Love” and “Black Peach” from The Chess Hotel (Universal South, 2006) have gotten considerable radio play in the Midwest. In 2009, the Elms released Great American Midrange, which included the single "Back to Indiana." Just the following year, the group dissolved.
