Dennis Puckett

Dennis Puckett -- Singer, songwriter, and guitarist. Born and raised in Fort Wayne, Dennis Puckett of the Rockabilly Hall of Fame wrote a number of songs that captured the spirit of rock 'n roll in the late '50s and early 60s. The names of the songs alone help place his music historically: "Rockin' Teens," "Bye Bye Blues," "Teenage Girl," and "Jungle Jive." He recorded his songs locally with Cliff Ayers of Emerald Records. Ayers billed Puckett as the "Indiana Elvis," and his original backing band was called the Rockets. His second of two 45s was backed by the band of Webb Foley, with whom he toured the east coast. In fact, Foley was such a promoter that he organized a boxing match that Puckett fought in. For many years, Puckett traveled the country entertaining with Duke Shannon from Marion. They were both known for their impersonations.
