Transmatic

Transmatic – Rock Band. An ephemeral, Indianapolis-based band, Transmatic formed in 1999 with the line-up of Joey Fingers (vocals), Zack Baldauf (guitar), Andy Carrell (bass), and Kirk Frederickson (drums). The group’s style has been described as post-grunge and hard-rock. Starting in 2000, Transmatic benefited from the relatively new technology of posting MP3s on-line. After catching the attention of John Maurer (former bassist with Social Distortion), the band got hooked up with producer Brad Wood and signed a six-album deal with Immortal/Virgin. Instead of catapulting the group to stardom, the huge contract spawned only one CD (self-titled in 2002), which included the minor hit “Come” (#29 on the Adult Billboard Top 40 charts). Although the group received substantial media coverage for breaking into the business through WEB postings and got further notice by touring with Michelle Branch and Tantric, they broke up in 2003. Since then, Baldauf has become part of the Indy-based Virgin Millionaires, which is hoping to break into the national scene with an upcoming recording release.
