Gladys Yelvington

Gladys Elizabeth Yelvington Parsons (b. Elwood, November 29, 1891 - d. Gary, February 11, 1957) -- Pianist and composer. As a teenager, Gladys Yelvington played piano for the silent movies in Elwood. Her only published piece was "Piffle Rag (1911)," first with Aufderheide in Indianapolis and then with the Mentel Brothers (who bought out Aufderheide) in 1914. In 1912, she married Leo Gerald Parsons, a mill worker from Elwood. The family would settle in Gary (where mill work would have been in high demand) in 1917.
