Bill Gaither

Bill Gaither (b. Alexandria, Indiana, March 28, 1936 - ) – Singer, songwriter, and publisher. Because of his performance career with the Bill Gaither Trio, his songwriting, and his publishing business, Gaither has become a giant in the world of Southern Gospel and Contemporary Christian Music. Starting in the 1950s, his trio, which for many years consisted of brother Danny, wife Gloria, and himself, was a world famous act. Since 1980, he has led the Gaither Vocal Band, which has earned sixteen Grammy nominations and nineteen Dove awards. Originally, Gaither was the baritone of the group and since 1985 has sung bass. The Gaither Vocal Band is featured on the "Gaither Gospel Hour," which is carried by fifteen channels on cable. With Gloria often writing the lyrics and Bill creating the music, the Gaithers have written many Gospel classics, including “Because He Lives” (1970). In the interest of managing his many musical affairs, he founded the Gaither Music Company, which produces CDs and sheet music in addition to handling retail and concert management. Still going strong, Bill Gaither has contributed to 2 multi-Platinum albums, 22 Platinum albums, and 21 Gold albums. Along with his wife Gloria, he still lives in Alexandria, which is near Muncie.
