Albert von Tilzer

Albert von Tilzer (b. Albert Gumm in Indianapolis, March 29, 1878 – d. Los Angeles, California, October 1, 1956) – Songwriter and publisher. Like his older brother Harry, Albert left the family business in Indianapolis for Chicago, where he worked as a song plugger. Still following his brother's footsteps, he also relocated to New York City and published his first song in 1900. Although his first songs were published by Harry, he began his own publishing firm, the York Music Company, in 1903 and brought his brothers Jack and Wilbur on board. He also enjoyed success as vaudeville performer and became a star on the Orpheum circuit on the strength of his biggest hit “Take Me Out to the Ballgame” from 1908. In 1930, he moved to Hollywood to compose for movies.
