During the 1970s and 1980s, Hoosier-born Phyllis Nelson was a popular singer in Philadelphia and recorded several dance tracks—some in the Disco style. In the same year, she wrote and recorded a ballad called “Move Closer,” which hit #1 on UK Singles Chart in May 1985. Her son Marc Nelson, a member of Boyz II Men before they released their first album, became a successful singer-songwriter with Capital Records. He has also written songs for megastars such as Brandy and Toni Braxton and has had commercial success as a member of Az Yet with LaFace Records.
