Ever since rock 'n roll hit the airwaves, youngsters in Indiana caught on to the new style in a hurry. A few local talents from Indianapolis, such as Ronnie Haig, Art Adams, and Danny Dowler, broadened their draw and eventually made it into the Rockabilly Hall of Fame; furthermore, Lonnie Mack and Bobby Helms from further South broke out on the national scene. Throughout the '60 some Indiana bands had hits, including the Rivieras, the Count Fives, and the McCoys, the last one launching the career of Rick Derringer. One of the most successful artists to come out of the Indiana band scene was Seymour's John Mellencamp, who stayed here and has remained loyal to Indiana musicians throughout his 40 plus year recording career. In terms of '90s rock, Lafayette was a hot bed for breeding musical talent as it produced the frontmen of Guns 'n Roses (Axl Rose) and Blind Melon (Shannon Hoon).
