Vance George

Vance George (b. Nappanee, 1933 - ) -- Conductor. Indiana native George has degrees from Goshen College and Indiana University. A student of Margaret Hillis, George, like his teacher, is known primarily for conducting choral works with orchestra. From 1983 to 2006, he conducted the San Francisco Symphony Chorus. More specifically, he has won four Grammy awards conducting the San Francisco Symphony Orchestra with the chorus. With the same performing forces, he also won an Emmy for a television concert performance of Sweeney Todd in 2001. In addition, he was the conductor for the soundtracks of Amadeus, the Unbearable Lightness of Being, and Godfather III.
