International Violin Competition of Indianapolis

Gold Medalist, Richard Lin, 2018

Silver Medalist, Risa Hokamura, 2018

International Violin Competition of Indianapolis – Founded in 1982 by Indiana University’s Josef Gingold, the International Violin Competition of Indianapolis attracts the most talented violinists all over the world and helps promote their careers. Held every four years, the competition also brings a wealth of violin performance and instruction to the area. In addition to the competition events, the guest violinists give master classes, school concerts, and demonstrations throughout Central Indiana. The 2018 winner was Richard Lin, who will be performing the Violin Concerto by Brahms with the ISO in the 2018-19 season. Furthermore, past prize winners present annual concerts called the Laureate Series. In addition to attracting audiences to classical music – more specifically solo violin repertoire – the competition also gives international exposure to Indianapolis through the concert activity of its two prize winners, who carry their competition title with them. Since 1982, the competition has produced forty-two Laureates from twenty-two countries, and they have distinguished themselves among the greatest performers in the world. The next competition will be held September 10 – September 26, 2010, and the application process will begin in early in 2009.
