Ryan Keberle

Ryan Keberle (b. Bloomington, June 16, 1980 - ) -- Trombonist, composer, arranger, and educator. Keberle came from a very musical family; his mother, Ann Winterer, was a piano teacher and church choir director, and his father, Dan Keberle, was a jazz trumpet player. Ryan grew up in Spokane, Washington, where he his father was director of Jazz Studies at Whitworth University. Not surprisingly, Ryan was involved in a myriad of musical activities, including piano lessons, Suzuki violin classes, and playing trombone with the Spokane Youth Orchestra. After starting his education at Whitworth, Ryan transferred to the Manhattan School of Music, where he was an award-winning jazz student. He then became one of the first students to earn a diploma in jazz studies from Juilliard. After graduation, Keberle performed with the famous Maria Schneider Jazz Orchestra, the Lincoln Center Jazz Orchestra, and Wynton Marsali, as well for Broadway musicals. He also had early success with getting jazz compositions played by college ensembles. Well versed in traditional jazz and progressive styles, Keberle for a Double Quartet in 2003 and released two albums with that group. In 2013, he founded Catharsis, which started out as a quartet (trombone, trumpet, bass and drums) and then added a female vocalist. The critically-aclaimed Catharsis has recorded four albums. As a sideman, Ryan has toured and/or recorded with a vast array of artists, including Rufus Reid, David Bowie, Alicia Keys, and Sufjan Stevens.
