Dancing Cigarettes

Dancing Cigarettes -- post-punk band. The Dancing Cigarettes was a Bloomington-based post-punk band from 1979 to 1983. The members usually consisted of Michael Gitlin (guitar, vocals), Emily Bonus (bass, vocals), Tim Noe (keyboards, sax, guitar), Jaclyn Oddi (keyboards, percussion), John Terrill (drums, guitar), and G. Don Trubey (sax, guitar, drums). From song to song, the band incorporated a wider range in style and mood than did most punk bands, but nonetheless had a penchant for prolonged dissonant harmonies. During the group's run, only a four-song EP was released, but a live album and studio album have come out in more recent years. Individual songs have appeared on compilation sets as well. In addition to being a popular act at the Bluebird, Bullwinkle's, and Second Story in Bloomington, the Dancing Cigarettes performed in clubs across the country including CBGB's in Manhattan's East Village.
