Joe Hinton

Joe Hinton (b. Evansville, November 15, 1929 – d. August 13, 1968, Boston) – Singer. Originally a gospel singer with the Chosen Gospel Quartet and the Spirit of Memphis Quartet, Hinton started recording soul music at the suggestion of Don Robey of Peacock Records. A high tenor with great command over ballads, Hinton charted a small handful of records including Willie Nelson’s “Funny (How Time Slips Away),” which went to #9 on the Billboard Hot 100 in 1964. In 1968, his career was tragically cut short by skin cancer.
