Janet Jackson

Janet Jackson (b. Gary, May 16, 1966 - ) – Singer, songwriter, actress, and producer. The youngest of nine children, Janet was born in Gary and moved to Los Angles with her family at age five. At age seven, she began performing on stage with her family (first at an MGM show in Las Vegas) and started acting the following year. Early roles include appearances on the Jacksons variety show, a recurring role on Good Times, and a short-lived character on Diff’rent Strokes. Although her solo career got off to a shaky start in 1982, she produced five consecutive #1 albums on the Billboard 200 from 1986 to 2001. Over eleven studio albums from 1982 to 2015, she has sold over 100 million records. In terms of record sales and awards, she is one of the most successful female pop artists of all time. She has 6 Grammy's, 11 Billboard Awards (most recent being "Icon Award" in 2018), American Music Awards, 23 BMI Awards, and 9 entries in the Guinness Book of World Records, including "Most Successful Dance Single" with "That's the Way Love Goes" (1999). In addition, she joined the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2019. Coming off of the "Unbreakable World Tour" (2015-16), she is in the middle of "State of the World Tour" (2017-19). Janet has starred in 5 films, from the silly The Nutty Professor II (2000) and the tragic For Colored Girls (2010).
