Brad Leftwich

Brad Leftwich (b. Oklahoma, 1953 - ) – Fiddle player, banjo player, and singer. A disciple of North Carolina fiddler Tommy Jarrell, Brad Leftwich was a founding member of the Virginia-based Plank Road String Band of the 1970s. In the late 1970s, Leftwich went to Bloomington to study anthropology and eventually settled into the old-time music community there. In the 1980s, Leftwich and banjoist Linda Higginbotham formed the nucleus of the Bloomington folk music scene and made several recordings together. He and Linda are members of the Hogwire String Band, and Brad is also in Tom, Brad, and Alice; both groups have recorded albums. In fact, Brad's fiddle playing is featured on ten CDs. Still a resident of Bloomington, Leftwich is a leading teacher of traditional fiddling and has published two instructional videos on fiddle playing as well a book on clawhammer banjo playing. More specifically, he is guest in the summer of 2019 at a folk festival in the Czech Republic.
