Aaron Rosand

Aaron Rosand (b. Hammond, March 15, 1927 - ) -- Violinist. Born in the Region, Aaron Rosand was a child prodigy and appeared with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra at age ten. He studied violin at the Chicago Musical College and the Curtis Institute, where he taught from 1981 until he was ninety-two in 2019. Known for his beautiful sound, he is considered one of the greatest interpreters of violin works from the Romantic period. He has played as a soloist with countless major orchestras around the world. He has recorded prolifically, as he is featured on over thirty albums (many on Vox). In October 2009, he sold his 1741 Guarneri del Gesù violin for approximately ten million dollars and donated 1.5 million to the Curtis Institute.
